Alright found it, for anyone still around:
Under …/.minecraft/config/jingames/dbc/races, there are 5 .cfgs that control each race’s stats.

Very low numbers can cause small issues. You can tweak this to your liking. I’ve made a decent survival-level+ experience. Saga is obviously not possible this way but playing with other mods is.

I’ve been trying to balance the damage, HP and freedom of movement that DBC allows with other mods, in order to make it playable as part of a modpack.
